This site is applicable to all residents of South Africa and residents of some other countries who are eligible to apply for an Australian visa in South Africa. It will introduce you to the procedures involved in the visa application process.

For Prospective Applicants:

Applicants who wish to apply for a Visa are requested to kindly read the information on this site carefully. The guidelines listed on this site are to help you prepare your documents as accurately as possible. This will reduce the chances of your application being incomplete or a delay in being processed.

Since the 18 of April 2005, the Australian Government had put in place new arrangements to facilitate the lodgment of applications for an Australian visa in South Africa. South African residents applying for any Australian visa will now be able to lodge their applications at the four Australian Visa Application Centres in South Africa

South African residents will no longer be able to lodge their applications at the Australian High Commission in Pretoria, as these services will be provided at the four locations. Visa applicants will need to plan ahead of travel to obtain an Australian visa.

The Australian Visa Application Centers will provide excellent client-friendly services to ensure Applicants are not required to wait for extended periods.

Kindly note that no appointments are required to lodge applications at the VFS offices.

Each Centre will provide services to Applicants between the hours 8:00am and 16:00pm (Submission : 0800 - 1230 and 1330 - 1500 Hours) and Collection : 1330 - 1600 Hours (, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
Visa Application Process
Step 1: Select a visa subclass which is appropriate for the purpose of your travel to Australia and download the relevant visa application form.

Please note: You can also obtain a visa application form at the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC).
Step 2: Your visa application may require supporting documentation  For a list of supporting documentation required for your visa, see checklists provided under “All about visas” .  Gather together required supporting documentation for your application.  To avoid delays all supporting documentation should be submitted at the time of application.
Step 3: Visa Fee to be paid in a Bank Issued cheque or Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners or JCB credit cards for the visa application charge before proceeding to the AVAC to lodge your application and. Please make the bank cheque payable to "Australian High Commission".
Step 4: Lodge your visa application and submit your biometric data at a visa application centre. The Australian Visa Office may contact you to request additional information.
